Lynas Opening The First Rare Earths Processing Plant in Australia
It’s an exciting time for Lynas and the future of high-flux magnets that literally make the modern world go around – super motors for EVs and everything else.
This month, Lynas switched on its Kalgoorlie Rare Earths Processing Facility.
The plant cost a whopping $800 million dollars. It took two and a half years to build from the receipt of full construction approvals to the real thing.
It’s fed by ore from Lynas’ world-class Mount Weld carbonatite deposit 150km north of Kalgoorie.
The Mixed Rare Earths carbonate produced at Lynas’ plant is being shipped to its Malaysian facility for separation into individual products.
Lynas is the world’s only significant producer of ex-China fully separated rare earths.
In the first quarter of this financial year, Lynas produced 1677 tonnes of NdPr generating $120m in sales revenue.
A new JORC resource was announced in August – now standing at 106.6 Mt at 4.12% Total Rare Earth Oxide, which is a 92% increase in its Mineral Resource from its last upgrade in 2018.
