The Cloncurry cousins Ivanhoe Australia and Exco Resources are set to entertain the Sydney Mining Club with their magic in October, with Ivanhoe Australia, an offshoot of the legendary Robert Friedland, currently having great success at the Merlin molybdenum and rhenium project. Merlin is emerging as the highest grade molybdenum (used to harden steel) and rhenium (used in high temperature applications like aircraft turbine blades) discovery in the world, with proof of that being 58m drill hits grading the stupendous equivalent of 19% copper or ounce per tonne! Exco is another Friedland investment in Australia, and more conventionally for the Cloncurry region, it is all about copper-gold. Managing Director Michael Anderson will undoubtedly have some interesting remarks involving Xstrata’s Ernest Henry mine’s need for the resources Exco have delineated.
