PNG's Gold-Copper-Moly Rockets
|
If you haven't been to PNG for a decade, today you can walk into a Port Moresby motel and immediately sense the nation's growing economic health. After a century of luring predominantly Australian-based mineral explorers, this time our nearest neighbour has captivated a strong wave of North American interest. Two standout Aussie exceptions are Highlands Gold with its expanding Kainantu gold mine and much newer player Marengo Mining with its Yandera copper-molybdenum porphyry - also in the Central Highlands. PNG is back!

Highlands Pacific is pouring gold at Kainantu and recently raised $A41.5 million, announcing plans for a further $10 million to expand production to around 265,000 ounces per year and to accelerate exploration of the surrounds. Marengo has agreed to acquire 100% of its copper-moly project which is ‘shaping up to be one of the southwest Pacific’s largest’. It has attracted global US-based commodities group Sempra Metals & Concentrates Corp as it mounts a massive drilling campaign. Find out what it is like working in PNG today with first-hand accounts from one new and one veteran player in the PNG minerals sector. Not to be missed.
