QLD’s Last Greenfield Open-Cut Coal Project
CEO of Pembroke Resources, Barry Tudor, Presents to Sydney Mining Club.
Olive Downs – The Coal Sector’s Answer to ESG…
This is an exciting one…
Pembroke Resources’ Olive Downs coking coal project is likely to be Queensland’s last greenfield open-cut coal mine. Located smack bang in the middle of the Bowen Basin, Olive Downs has an 843Mt open-cut JORC Resource, and a >2 Billion tonne Underground Target.
It is permitted to produce 20 million tonnes of coal a year, but will be built in stages, with the first stage producing 4.5 million tonnes a year. These production numbers give Olive Downs a mine life of over 80 years.
Mining commenced in June last year, and coal shipments are starting very soon, with product destined for India, Korea and Japan.
Pembroke Resources has become a champion for the people of Queensland.
To reach first production, Pembroke engaged over 86 local Central Queensland businesses. Across the entire complex, local industry has benefited from the construction and improvement of critical rail and electricity infrastructure. The mine employs hundreds of people, and is estimated to generate as much as $10 billion in state royalties alone.
But to get to this point, Pembroke had to tick all the boxes. Its management team is world-class, and its Environment, Social and Governance policies set the standard for the international coal sector. Pembroke is deploying autonomous-ready 794 AC haul trucks for the first time in Australia.
It has deployed CAT’s autonomous haulage system (AHS) and autonomous drilling system for the first time.
Pembroke has also committed to funding the conservation of an area 87 times larger than the Brisbane CBD to protect native flora and fauna including koalas. With coal increasingly under attack around the world and within Australia, Pembroke is leading the way.
Not one to be missed…
