Nickel, Gold & High Purity Alumina

Presenting Peter Harold from Poseidon Nickel, Dr Matthew Greentree from Ausgold, and Iggy Tan from Altech Chemicals.

Poseidon Nickel (ASX: POS)

It will take nearly a billion tonnes of nickel to get us to replace fossil fuels, so says a startling piece of research by Prof. Simon Michaeux from Finland’s Geological Survey. At the 2019 mining rate of 2.4 Mtpa it will take 400 years to get there!

To capitalise on this looming nickel boom Poseidon Nickel aims to become a reliable supplier of nickel sulphide concentrate – a critical input in the production of electric vehicle batteries – by extracting and processing the nickel over its three key projects in south-west Western Australia. Overall, Poseidon has an indicated resource of 17.2 million tonnes at an average nickel grade of 1.11 per cent. With flagship assets of the existing 2.2 Mtpa processing and 1.5 Mtpa processing plants at its Black Swan and Lake Johnston projects, Poseidon is finalising its DFS en route to first production.

Ausgold Ltd (ASX: AUC)

Ausgold Limited is a classic Perth-based gold exploration and development company with a suite of projects on the move in one of Australia’s most prospective gold provinces.

Ausgold’s primary focus is its 100 per cent owned Katanning Gold Project (KGP), which covers 4,000 square kilometres of the under-explored Katanning greenstone belt in south-western Western Australia. Gold mineralisation has been identified over 20 kilometres of strike at the KGP project and contains a JORC 2012-compliant mineral resource of 56 million tonnes at 1.21g/t gold for 2.16 million ounces, of which 1.78 million ounces are in the measured and indicated categories. Ausgold is shooting for gold of 126,000 Ozpa for the first six years using conventional gravity and CIL processing facility with a nameplate capacity of 3.0 Mtpa.

Altech Chemicals (ASX: ATC)

New gen batteries demand a huge number of different materials. Altech Chemicals is a vertically integrated specialty battery materials technology company – from mine pit to anode. It is developing a 10,000 tpa silicon graphite anode plant in the state of Saxony, Germany, using its proprietary high purity alumina coating technology.

It recently announced this industry-first technology for high-capacity silicon in lithium-ion batteries – an innovation offering a 30% higher energy battery, with improved cyclability or battery life. Altech is in PFS for a 10,000 tonnes per annum Silumina Anode material plant at its 100% owned 14-hectare industrial site. At the mining end Altech has finalised Stage 1 and Stage 2 construction of the plant for feedstock from its 100%-owned near-surface kaolin deposit at Meckering, Western Australia. It is aiming to quality control material supply with 99.99% of its own high purity alumina processed through the construction and operation of a 4,500tpa high purity alumina processing plant at Johor, Malaysia.
