The Knight Family
Beaconsfield
Tasmania

Dear Mrs Knight

I write to you as the Chairman of the Sydney Mining Club and enclose a small gift from the members of our Club.

On the occasion of our 100th Forum here in Sydney we decided to pass the hat around in memory of the Beaconsfield tragedy and the death of Larry Knight. Essentially none of us knew him but all of us were all moved by the story of his death and as mining people we do feel a connection.

The members of the Sydney Mining Club are mostly suit-wearing Sydney dwellers and work mostly in the finance end of the mining industry. But many started out working underground and in open cuts as geologists, metallurgists and mining engineers. With this background you can hopefully better understand the sense of connection with your loss of Larry. With many of the larger donors I'm sure there is a real sense of 'there but for the grace of God go I'.

We are mining people and this combination of individual donations and a sum from the funds of the members generally is just a small token to express our sense of connection and regret. We are sure you will find a use for it.

Good luck and best wishes from all of us.

Kind regards

Julian Malnic
